Ecoplastic featured as the Great Western Way Walking Trail reopens

Along with signature walks like the Kerry and Wicklow Ways, Galway & Mayo’s Great Western Way is one of the jewels in the crown of Ireland’s walking trails.  The trail has been in existence for 20 years but was sadly neglected.  Rural Recreation Officers Rosaleen Ní Shúilleabháin and Martin Dillane made the revitilization of this important tourism area a focus of their work.  Both are passionate about collaborating with rural communities to bring projects like this to life and make their areas better for local people and visitors.

As part of their plans, Rosaleen and Martin approached Ecoplastic about using our 100% recycled plastic, maintenance free trail furniture products.

“New reroutes have taken up to 20 additional miles off–road, so it’s a much improved product.” said Martin.

With these new sections and improvements, the relaunched Great Western Way required new waymarking and wayfinding facilities and the solution had to be long lasting and maintenance free.  Recycled plastic requires no maintenance and has a design life of 40+ years.

Rosaleen and Martin selected our stylish M41 Ardmeen Information Boards and our durable recycled plastic waymarker posts which now form an essential part of this innovative tourism product – and the future is bright for similar improvements as the growth of greenways around the country continues.
